Preschool Day 1

We're settled in our new home and decided it was time to jump back onto the homeschooling wagon for our 4.5 year old. We got off track over the summer, but we're ready to learn again :)

I won't lie, it's a bit nerve wracking trying to pick what route of learning to go with, what curriculum to choose and what subjects to focus on. I believe these early years the most important form of learning is play, so I try to keep our desk work and formal learning pretty short. Before the summer we had begun learning some letter sounds. We did A-G I think. Today I decided to start off with F, she knows A-E fairly well, but after that she is shaky, so I figured starting over from there would be most beneficial for her.

I like to pull from all over the internet, so excuse this mess as I try to figure the best format for sharing what we do in our lessons. I'll get better with each post :)

Letter F

We started with Star Fall's letter F interactive page. Emmie really love the interactive pages where she can click and do mini games. We learned what sound F makes.

After we did some coloring/tracing pages. We started with this one to learn how to write Capital and lowercase F. We discussed the pictures below that started with the "Fff" sound. You could practice your cutting skills when finished, but we didn't today. We will probably do that tomorrow.

Then we practiced writing our letter F's on this page and did the activity. I walked her through it, before letting her color the activity page to make sure she understood. I was surprised when we went through beginning sounds of the objects she knew Top and Duck started with that "t" sound and "d" sounds.

We did more than usual today, we went back to startfall after and learned how to sign the letter F. This was new, we hadn't introduced the alphabet in sign language before and she seemed to really enjoy getting to work with her fingers and learn a new "language". We started that mini lesson by talking about what sign language is first.

This was Emmie's favorite part of her lesson today. Progressive Phonics [so happy I found this website!!] has mini alphabetti books. Emmie thought this story was hilarious and was excited to be able to read the word "fit" every time it appeared in the story. I just found this website today and I think we're going to start over next week with this curriculum. She is excited to learn how to read and I believe her enthusiasm for this set up will help

Lastly, we did page 9 in this packet. We read the story, then she pointed out all the letter f's in the story. We added a small amount of math by having her count how many F's there were as well

Today was a bit of an F overload as I tried to figure out which of these styles worked for her. She ended up loving them all -.- lol. Luckily it doesn't take much time to do those activities.
